Finished the Falcon
On Sunday, I finished building the Millennium Falcon LEGO set I had started building on Saturday. I had to make two trips to a local LEGO store to buy some missing pieces.

- On Monday, I wrote the first draft of an article that I hope will be published on CSS Tricks. We had kicked off Front End Study Hall a couple of weeks ago with a question about Sass. I did not get the opportunity to share my thoughts during that call but decided to write down some thoughts I have been forming about Sass recently. The editor got back to me at the end of the week and would like to publish. We just need to make some minor edits. I am so excited that I am going to have an article published on a site that has contributed so much to my Web education.
- I enjoyed working on building out a digital edition of the Revive Our Hearts September newsletter on Thursday.
- A page that I built a couple of weeks ago for a Women’s Ministry training course went live this week. I was given some examples of other pages they wanted it to be like but then was given freedom to design and layout the page. I am really excited with how it turned out. I used some icons from The Noun Project for the curriculm section.
- I did not feel well most of the week. I felt very lethargic and had a lot of nasal drainage. It developed into a lot of sinus pain over the weekend.
- I have an idea for another article about isolation property in CSS. Not sure if it is something I will write here or try to pitch for CSS Tricks.
What I wrote
Both of the things I wrote this week were personal and not related to Web development.
- “I found some old posters you had made” – My dad found some old poster I made over forty years ago. It was fun to have him find things that I made that I thought had been thrown out long ago. I see the seeds of the creative career that I have been so blessed to have.
- Happy birthday, Anthony – I wrote some reflections about a friend I have lost touch with on his birthday.
Articles I read
- Wild gardening (Chris Ferdinandi)
- 90 Gallons of Water vs 9 Drops of Rain (Tim Challies)
- Does it Matter if the Tide is Turning? (O. Alan Noble)
- Ten Truths to Empower Your Prayer Life (Lori Hatcher)
- Let Me Google that For You (Brad Littlejohn) – I enjoyed this article. It addressed some dissonance that I have experienced. When I am asking a teammate a question, it is not all about getting an answer to the question but relationship.
- The Irishman’s Two Stoves (Brad Littlejohn)
- He Shatters the Jar (Dave Harvey, sponsored post of Tim Challies site)
- The return of tech specs (Chris Coyier on Frontend Masters Blog)
- An Empty Nest (Tessa Lind)
- Studio Notes #48 (Dan Cederholm)
- Active meditation (Chris Ferdinandi)
What I watched
Tech Promised Everything. Did it deliver? by Scott Hanselman (YouTube)
- Join or Die (Netflix) – I highly recommend this one. Dave Rupert had mentioned it on one of his Vibe Checks. I finally got around to watching it. I think it has an important message for the times we live in.
- NCIS (Netflix)
- Iron Man 2 (Disney+)
- Thor (Disney+)
- The Great British Baking Show Collection 13, Episode 1 (Netflix)
- LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring (Digital) – I watched this on Saturday when I was not feeling good.
- I watched a bit of Kevin Powell’s livestream to celebrate 1000 episodes on YouTube
What I listened to
- CSS random(), IDs in HTML, and Chris Goes Browser Shopping (ShopTalk Show #680) – I enjoyed listening to this on my Monday night walk
Caught my eye

I love the website for Web Day Out, a one-event all about what you can do in web browsers today. Brought to you by ClearLeft. I wish I could go. I hope they post videos of the event later on down the road.
I love the purple color scheme. My screenshot is dark mode. Light mode is just a lighter purple. It has some nice page transitions that you can see in Chrome and other browsers that currently support it. It has some fun little easter eggs as you poke around a bit.
Walking
I was excited to start the week and continue to get back into the walking habit. But my body had a different plan as I did not feel well most of the week. I think it was allergies but then hit harder over the weekend.
- Monday – 4.11 miles in 1 hour 21 minutes
- Thursday – 1.67 miles in 32 minutes (I need to get out of the house for a bit and get refocused)
What I played
- MLB The Show 20 (Twins) – I went 4-1 this week.
- NBA 2K25 (Nuggets) – I beat the Pacers by 10 on the road
