Week of June 28–July 4
Launches

Last week saw the launch of several projects that I worked on in the month of June.
- True Woman ‘27 Conference – The bi-annual conference that Revive Our Hearts puts on will be celebrating its 20th year. We are launching the site now and opening registration. There are some other woman’s conferences scheduled around the same time and we wanted to take advantage of the momentum of another conference that happened at the same venue at the end of last month.
- What is a Woman? – Mary Kassian just released a book about Biblical womanhood. Mary offers a biblical, compassionate, and truth-filled response to one of the most important questions of our time—helping women stand firm in God’s Word with wisdom and grace.
We also launched a couple of private event pages surrounding Revive Our Hearts 25th Anniversary which is happening at the end of September.
Last week in the workshop – Wonder of the Word
I started working on the next big project for Wonder of the Word. Starting in 2027, Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth will be teaching through the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation over the course of two years. This undertaking will include new podcasts for the main teaching (also available in video), Highlights (a shorter version of the main teaching), and a podcast for kids featuring engaging audio drama teachings. We have partnerships with 19 different languages that will be doing one to all the same initiatives that we are doing in English.
I started working on a template for the individual podcast episodes. These will include audio, video, and links to different resources related to the teaching in that episode. This is just the first of many templates we are creating. Different languages teams are already busy translating and recording content to be ready for January 1, 2027.
My team leader had created several wireframes before he left. I took those prototypes and refactored the code to be more semantic and made some layout changes that I thought would better serve the project. We are hoping to finish up work on the templates by the end of the summer or early fall so that the translation teams can see the English content in action and plan for their needs.

Caught my eye
24 Modal Effects (Codepen) – I want to combine some of these ideas with what I learned from Chris’ tutorial that I read last week.

silverorange – A beautiful agency site. I love the colors, the spacing, the typography, and the illustrations. I just really enjoyed the feel of the site as I clicked around. I came across the site through Chris Coyier’s link to Uber for Dogs: How to Stop & Think for Design on the silverorange blog.

The Typefinders – Another beautiful site. I love the colors. The subtle motion. aAnd of course, the typography, which you would expect to shine a collection of type foundries.

I particularly like this marquee element that highlights the different foundries, revealing more information on hover.
What I watched
- Are we heading to an era of stagnation or innovation? (Kevin Powell, General Musings)
- Positioning in CSS is too easy now (Kevin Powell)
- Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, episodes 2 and 3 (Netflix) – We finally finished this one.
- American Pickers (Samsung TV Plus)
- World Cup: Netherlands vs Morocco (FOX) – I started watching this one in the 60th minute. Exciting game that ended in penalty kicks.
- World Cup: USA vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina (FOX) – We were glad to see the US hang on and win this one.
- World Cup: Portugal vs. Croatia (FOX) – This one had an exciting finish. I was disappointed to see Croatia lose this one.
- World Cup: Argentina vs. Cape Verde (FOX) – What a classic game. We were pulling for Cape Verde. They came close to pulling off the upset.
Books I am reading
- The Discipline of Grace (Jerry Bridges)
- Enshittification: Why Everything Suddenly Got Worse and What to Do About It (Cory Doctorow)
Walking
Once again, I did not get out walking last week.
What I played
MLB The Show 23 (Orioles) – I went 2-4 this week. I lost the final 2 games of a 4 game series to the Rays and lost the series 1-3. I lost 2 games to the Phillies and lost that series. First time, I have lost two series in a row.
