Week of July 20–26
Interviewed

I was interviewed this week for our Revive Our Hearts chapel service. This week, we were remembering an event that happened 30 years ago. Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth spoke at the 1995 Campus Crusade for Christ staff conference in Ft. Collins, Colorado. God used her message on brokenness as a catalyst to doing a special work in the hearts of the staff in attendance. I was at the conference and shared my personal observations about the day and what it meant to me. I also prepared a Getting to Know me, Revive Our Hearts edition for the staff to learn more about me.
Another shout out
I saw that I had a notifcation from Bluesky on Thursday night.
After clicking on the link, I discovered that Chris Coyier had written an article about my Bluesky question and the article I documented the suggested solutions. Chris admitted he had run into this same problem himself. His solution was to set a max-inline-size on the caption that worked pretty good for his blog. But finding a better solution was still on his mind.
I love these types of articles as we get to look over the shoulder of someone trying to deconstruct and understand a solution. Chris works through some of the different solutions that were proposed from my original question. His conclusion was the same as mine and we both liked Stephanie Eckles solution the best. I appreciate how Chris’ article adds more depth to the conversation.
At the end of the day, what we are trying to solve is this: how do you size a parent element based on a child element and being able to choose which child element to size it upon? (This is a rephrasing of what Chris mentioned to me in a DM and in a comment on his article.)
I am delighted by how much traction asking my question has gotten. It started with a problem. I decided to ask some CSS experts to weigh in. And a bunch of people learned things in the process. Win, win all around.
Bummed
After seeing my son’s design idea for his portfolio, I was showing him some sites with some similar ideas/interactions. I also looked up one of my favorite examples of a scroll-driven animation. But when I got to the page, it had been redesigned and had more of a straight forward corporate look. I was bummed. I checked the Internet Archive but the page came up blank. I had really liked the previous site and wished I had captured it.
I decided to reach out to the company on LinkedIn to see if they might have archived it somewhere. The next day I received a response with a link. Woo hoo! I was so excited that I can still access it. I also did a screen capture in case it goes away in the future.
Roadtrip (again)
My fourth roadtrip in 6 weeks. And my third going up and back from Nashville. I took my daughter and her guinea pigs home to Nashville. And my wife joined me. It was nice to have her along. I was glad to have the company on the return trip.

An unexpected find at Crackerbarrel. I love Wild Cherry Lifesavers, but they are not easy to find, or they cost a lot online. My jaw literally dropped when I saw these on the shelf at Crackerbarrel on Sunday. My wife encouraged me to get a couple of bags. She walked over as I reacted to seeing them.
