Week of August 10–16
Move-in

My wife, son, and I traveled up to Murray, Kentucky to move him into the dorm for the last time. This is the first year since year one that my wife has joined us. We traveled up on Thursday and moved him in on Friday. We had a beautiful but very hot day. But it was not raining like it had the past two years. We were able to unload his stuff into a roped off area of the parking lot and get it to his room in 3 trips with the big cart. Later, we went over to a storage unit to get his refridgerator, shelving unit, and some other things that he kept in Murray over the summer.
We enjoyed eating dinner with him and two of his friends on Thursday night. We had spent time with Aaron before and were glad to spend some time with Finley. We enjoyed them telling us stories about their summer or their past years at Murray State. All three of them will graduate in May. We are so grateful for the friends that my son has made in his time here.
We got together on Saturday morning to eat breakfast at Murray Donuts and then say goodbye. I have done that several times when I have been in town visiting him or moving him in or out. After saying goodbye to him, we drove to Nashville and spent a couple of hours with our oldest before hitting the road and returning home around dinner time.

Other highlights

- I participated in Front End Study Hall on Tuesday. This was my second time to join this online discussion. I didn’t talk as much this time around. I was going to weigh in on the first question about Sass that Joe asked but after several people had answered it, the discussion transitioned to a new topic. I would like to write an article and share what I didn’t get to say.
- I finished building out an event page that I had started last week before attending the conference. I enjoyed getting to polish it up and add colors and typography from the style guide the design team put together.
- I solved several other small problems to help improve our ministry’s websites.

My son was given a Mac Pro Tower by the agency he interned for this summer. We thought it looked like a cheese grater so I tried to get artsy with a picture of it before he took it back to school with him.
A story about Lifesavers

I talked to my dad on Wednesday. As we were catching up, I told him the story about how I found Wild Cherry Lifesavers at Crackerbarrel on a recent trip. He said that he had a similar experience to share with me.
He told me how my Mom liked Butter Rum Lifesavers, and she could get them in a roll at Crackerbarrel. They had bought some a couple of weeks before she died a couple of years ago and he found them recently in her purse. He put the roll on their dresser as a way to remember her. And he ate a couple of them.
It was fun to tie those two stories together. One of the things that I like about Wild Cherry Lifesavers are that they are already a tie to both my mom and her father. I cannot remember the why but I remember the connection. Now whenever I go into a Crackerbarrel, I will look for a roll of Butter Rum Lifesavers, not to buy but to remember my mom by. I looked for them at both of the Crackerbarrels we visited on our trip and smiled inside.
