I was thinking about this poster recently with the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. About a month after the Russians squashed the rebellion, the Hungarians played the Soviets in water polo at the Melbourne Olympic Games. It was a bloody match that the Hungarians won the semi-final match and then won the gold medal after defeating Yugoslavia. Many of the players on the Hungarian team defected to the West after the Games.

My son created this poster for his printmaking class. He researched the event and saw archival footage. We had spent several days together in Budapest the spring before. I asked him to send me a picture of the poster since I was thinking about it recently.
