Week of June 19 - 25

Kauffman Real World Learning

After enjoying a day off on Monday, I focused my attention on the Kauffman Real World Learning project. I had a productive week as I was able to build out several pages. Later in the week, I sat down with my project manager and we mapped out the timeline for the project through the end of July. We are slated to launch the new site in the middle of August. It helped me to feel confident that I am still on track and

I had a lot of fun bringing the 404 page to life this week. Kosta, one of our animators, had created a fun animated illustration for the page. The challenge for me was to optimize the animated GIF file and then recreate other elements of the illustration through a static image background and use clip-path to create a shape for the illustration’s container. I started in Codepen and then moved into my local development site. Kosta enjoyed seeing his creation come to life on the page.

Mid-Year Review

I had my mid-year review at the end of the week. It was a great encouragement as my manager and one of the founders talked through my growth and how I handled some different challenges over the last six months. It was very affirming. I continue to feel incredibly valued both through their words and financial reward. I was encouraged to hear about the impact that I am having on the company and the team by living out my values as a professional and caring so much about the quality of our work. It is an incredible privilege to be part of this talented team of individuals.

Books I read

  • The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self
  • Knowing Sin
  • Understanding Comics – I bought this book years ago after hearing Andy Clarke refer to it in a talk he did. This book discusses how comic artists developed a visual vocabulary for the medium. I decided to pick it up after reading Marvel by Design. The book is written as a comic and teaches many principles through the artwork. I am glad that I picked up and am really enjoying the read.
  • The Power of Christian Contentment – I decided to reread this book as I had feelings 0f discontentment lately. I am grateful for the book’s perspective and for helping me to refocus my heart.
  • The Amazing Spider-Man (Penguin Classics Marvel Collection) – I bought the hardcover edition of this recently released book. It contains twelve key stories from the first 2 years of Spider-man. Spider-man has been one of my favorite superheroes since I was a kid. It is fun to read the original stories reprinted in this book.

What I watched

  • The Adam Project (Netflix) – I have been wanting to watch this one since it came out a couple of months ago. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi (Disney+) – My family and I really enjoyed the finale. I really enjoyed revisiting this character. I believe Obi-Wan is my favorite Star Wars character and I really like Ewan MacGregor’s portrayal of him in the prequels and in this Disney+ series.
  • Everybody Loves Raymond (Peacock)
  • Ms. Marvel (Disney+)
  • No Time to Die (Prime Video) – I was disappointed with this one. Not as good as other ones I have seen Daniel Craig in.

What I played

  • MLB The Show 21 (Braves) – I went 5-2 this week. I ended the week 1 game ahead of the Phillies in the race for the NL East. I believe I need to win 8 to 10 of my last 13 games to take the division. I have been on a nice run lately so hoping to keep it up and win the division.
