Chiefs vs. Bills did not disappoint
January 30, 2025

The AFC Championship Game on Sunday did not disappoint. It was another classic game between the Chiefs and the Bills, just what we have come to expect from this match up which has given us so many exciting games over the last five years. Once again it was a slug fest that was decided late in the game. The key play was the Chiefs holding the Bills on 4th down forcing a turnover of possession. And then the Chiefs were able to get two key first downs to ice the game.
I was excited to see the Chiefs come out and stop the Bills and force a three-and-out on the Bills’ first possession. And then Patrick Mahomes and the offense moved quickly down the field and put up 7 points on the board for their first possession.
I was a bit worried when the Chiefs fumbled the ball on their second possession. They once again were moving the ball well down field and looked like they could have scored a second touchdown. These games are always tight and turnovers can be the difference in the game. The Chiefs have done an excellent job of protecting the ball the previous 8 games. I also feared that it could kill the great momentum that the Chiefs had been establishing offensively.
But they were able to bounce back and the turnover did not end up hurting them.
I thought that Mahomes and the offense looked the best that I have seen them all year in that game. And the defense came through with two key stops in the second half. The biggest coming on the Bills’ final drive in which they could have won the game if they could have gone down and scored a touchdown.
I jumped off the couch in excitement as the ball fell to the ground and the Chiefs took over on downs. I also celebrated when Samaje Perine caught the pass and ran for first down yardage to seal the victory.

It is a weird experience to be a fan of a team that seems to be hated by a lot of people in America or at least those people would like to see them lose. I have tended to root against dominant teams in the past as well. I am just enjoying this era of Chiefs football after so many years of losing seasons and failed expectations. So many years of watching other teams compete in the playoffs. And now finally my team has had the chance and they have made the most of it.
These games can be very hard to watch. As a sports fan, you want to have those special moments where you can see your team shine. But in order to get there, you have to have the drama, which means the game is tense. That tension can be incredibly unnerving. Your heart drops when your team makes mistakes that you are not sure they can overcome. There are moments of elation and moments where you wonder if you are hoping against hope.
You know that there is a chance of the game ending in disappointment for you as a fan. It can be so hard to watch a game in the final quarter and wonder if your team is going to come out on top or not. But there is a part of you that thrives on that tension because you know that there is a possibility of something very exciting and magical waiting at the end of it. And as a Chiefs’ fan over the past six years, I have been incredibly fortunate to have more happy and elated moments than the hurt of disappointment.
Mahomes Magic

Mahomes is an incredible player and he has been so much fun to watch over the past six seasons (I only watched the Chiefs play in the AFC Championship in 2019 and not any of the other games that season). “Magic” is a word that has been used to describe him and he has performed that magic time and time again over the past seven years. I feel incredibly lucky that he plays for my hometown team and don’t take it for granted. I am just enjoying every moment of it. I can’t wait to see them play the Eagles in a couple of weeks for the chance to create history if they can win and be the first three-peat Super Bowl Champion.
