Web 2.0: Beginning a Conversation on the future of Internet Ministry

February 9, 2006

I did a roundtable discussion with Rob Williams today. We got together several Web practioners that work at Campus Crusade’s headquarters and gave a introduction and demonstration of the concept known as Web 2.0.

Web 2.0 is about empowering the user

February 8, 2006

See Dave Rogers’ article, Web 2.0: Mistaking the Forest for the Trees? It helped me to make another step in understanding and being able to explain this concept that has been termed “Web 2.0.” Web 2.0 is the application of the reality that most designers and companies have been slow to embrace. The Web is […]

WAMP and PHP Development

January 3, 2006

A couple of weeks ago, I started working on a tutorial to add a forum to a site using Dreamweaver, PHP and MySQL. The tutorial pointed me to a product called WAMP, which is a package of Apache, PHP and MySQL that allows you to run a test server on your local machine. I have […]

Just Right Content

January 3, 2006

I read an article over my “Christmas break” about “just right content.” It is a paper by Jared Spool of UIE. The paper shares some findings of a research project that is still in progress. I can’t wait until they finish the project and have some practical tools that I as a designer can implement […]

Inukshuk Content

December 21, 2005

I recently read an article on UIE’s website that has got me dreaming and thinking. Here is an excerpt: Inukshuk is “the name of stone figures created by Inuit hunters as guide markers. The hunters arranged the piles of stones in the likeness of human beings, signifying to other hunters that someone already has passed […]

Articles I Have Found Helpful

December 16, 2005

Here are some articles that I read recently. Prioritizing Design Time: A Long Tail Approach — this article by Joshua Porter got me thinking about the importance of designing secondary pages. It also prompted me to consider how important a homepage really is. With Web 2.0, more visitors will probably enter sites bypassing the homepage […]

Added another trick to my belt

December 9, 2005

Today, I was able to add another trick to my web toolbelt. For several months, I have been wanting to do Flash video differently. I wanted to have a static image in the Flash movie that a person would have to “click” in order to see the movie. But I would have to learn Flash […]

Web Developer Toolbar

December 1, 2005

Another tool that I recently picked up is the Web Developer toolbar for Firefox. I heard about it about the User Interface Conference I went to in Boston. It is a great tool. You can load other stylesheets into the browser. You can resize the window. And much more.

Flash Album Generator

November 18, 2005

I just put together my first Flash photo gallery with an extension I bought for Dreamweaver. The extension, Flash Album Generator, is a command in Dreamweaver that creates the album along with Fireworks so the program Flash is not involved. I like helpful extensions like this because I do not know Flash.

Is Your Homepage Immature?

November 11, 2005

I found this essay on Adaptive Path to be helpful as I am thinking through how to redesign the homepage of CampusCrusadeforChrist.com. I did not design this site. Our current homepage is just not working for what our team wants to communicate and highlight.

Redesign or Realign?

November 8, 2005

This morning, I read anarticle by Cameron Moll, Good Designers Redesign, Great Designers Realign. I found it very helpful as I have been considering a couple of redesign projects. It was also affirming to me that I am heading in the right direction as I consider a major redesign of one of my sites, GodSquad. […]

Web 2.0 Themes

October 20, 2005

Last week, I attended the User Interface Conference in Boston. It was hosted by UIE. It was a really good conference and I would like to go back next year if I can get the funding. Joshua Porter did a seminar on Web 2.0 and here is my summary. He talked about it using different […]

What is AJAX?

September 8, 2005

I have been seeing the term “Ajax” a lot in discussions about Web 2.0. This article from User Interface Engineering is a good place to start in understanding what Ajax is.

Web 2.0

September 7, 2005

I started reading things last spring about Web 2.0. I realized the other day that I have made the switch as a Web 2.0 user and I am beginning to make the switch as a developer. What is Web 2.0? Richard MacManus of ZDNet has started a new blog, Web 2.0 Explorer: Tales from the […]

Web 2.0

September 1, 2005

Are you familiar with Web 2.0? I am trying to get a grasp on it and understand how I can position myself to design for this paradigm shift. The reality is that I am already making the paradigm shift as a Web user. Now I need to figure out how to tap into it as […]

Online Prayer Experience

April 29, 2005

What makes a good online experience? I can think of a handful of sites that I have seen that I really liked the use of Flash to give a good experience. I came across the Labyrinth last fall while I was on a trip to Atlanta. The Labyrinth is a prayer experience. I had done […]

I am one who is always looking for inspiration. I am creative but I need a starting point to design. I can’t just start with a blank piece of paper. Here is a list of a couple of sites that I have been looking at for inspiration. I came across the CSS sites in the last […]

Worn Look

April 13, 2005

I have noticed several blogs on CSS design galleries that are using this “worn” or “weathered” look. I have an idea for a page design using this look. I wrote to one of the blog authors who is a designing and he sent me to this tutorial that helped me to get equipped on how […]

Browser News Site

April 7, 2005

My friend Shawn told me about a site that gives news and information about all the different Web browsers. There are also links to downloads of current and older versions of each browser. At first look, this site: upsdell.com/BrowserNews/overview.htm looks like it could be a good resource for Web designers and developers.

User Interface Conference

April 7, 2005

I am so excited. This morning I registered to go to a User Interface Conference in Boston in October. I have heard two of the speakers before at another conference. I get their weekly email tip that deals with useability and designing for user experience. I am currently reading books by two of the speakers […]
